Behind the seam
Stephastique is the creative name of me, Stephanie Willems. The name combines 'Stephanie' and 'unique', reflecting the belief that every person deserves clothing that honours their individuality.
Circularity
At the heart of my creative process is circularity. I design from what already exists, guided by an emotion or story the piece should express. When a garment reaches the end of its life, it does not become waste. It becomes the beginning of something new.
Who I am
I hold a BA in Allround Styling from Academie Artemis and completed multiple professional training programmes at a Dutch fashion academy (Modevakschool), where I specialised in fashion design, tailoring, garment construction and fashion education. During my studies, I became increasingly aware of the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry. Instead of turning away, I chose to become part of the solution.
What I do
Custom made garment design and rental for individuals, companies and organisations | Statement pieces for performers and creatives | Limited collections of unique designs | Styling for events, shoots and performances | Community textile projects | Sustainability education & workshops
How I work
Based in Ubbergen (near Nijmegen) in the Netherlands, all garments are sustainably crafted by me.
I work primarily with second hand and discarded materials. Rather than seeing limitations, I see possibilities. The constraints of working with pre owned textiles inspire me and push me to design intuitively and innovatively.
Each piece is shaped by the history of the materials I find, resulting in garments that are expressive, emotional, and unique.
When asked to create something custom made, my goal is not just to design a garment, but to create something you truly love wearing.
Something that reflects who you are, enhances what you feel proud of, and stays with you for years.
Education & workshops
I actively create impact by leading through example.
Through lectures, workshops and sewing classes, I educate children, youngsters and adults about the impact of fast fashion and the power of conscious creation.
I love teaching people how to transform existing textiles into new fashion pieces while rediscovering the value of craftsmanship. Upcycling becomes a joyful, empowering and liberating form of creative expression.
I work with schools, theatres, community centres, festivals, youth organisations
and companies throughout the Netherlands.
Mission & vision
My mission is to inspire positive change in the fashion industry through sustainable design and education.
Every person and equally every material holds value and deserves to be seen.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. Overproduction, textile waste and unfair labour conditions are still the norm. My practice addresses these challenges by working exclusively with pre owned
and reclaimed materials and by extending the lifespan of every garment I create.
My work combines material reuse, emotional durability and education to contribute to long term systemic change.
